Le plein de news d'Hong-Kong

the eye

New functionnality: choose your own design

Cinémasie fermé pour maintenance
As some people don't really like the colors or layout of Cinemasie, and as we don't really have any skill in this domain, we have added a new functionnality. You can now choose between 8 different designs. Those designs are not so different from the default one, but you can already have another possibility if you hate the current one. Also, if you know how to edit a CSS file, you can send us your own design, and we will upload it in this system. Don't hesitate to send us any comment.

Lost in Time and Sound of Colors: trailers

Lost In Time
Currently showing in Hong-Kong, Lost In Time, the new movie by Derek Yee (director of C'est La Vie Mon Chéri) can already be considered as a success (with more than 10 millions HK$ and an excellent word of mouth). This drama features an impressive cast, with Cecilia Cheung already announced as a potential winner for the best actress award this year, Lau Ching-Wan and Louis Koo.

Lost In Time : Trailer

At the end of the month, the new Joe Ma produced by Wong Kar-Waï and adapted from a novel of Jimmy Liao (already adapted twice this year with Turn Left, Turn Right and Floating Landscape) will be released. Sound Of Colors is a love story featuring Tony Leung Chiu-Wai and Miriam Yeung. After a very disappointing Love Undercover 2 (but still very profitable), the trailer gives us more hope to have another interesting movie after the surprise Diva Ah Hey.

Jade Goddess and Star Runner: websites and trailers

Jade Goddess

Two years after July Rhapsody, director Ann Hui is back with her new movie. Jade Goddess, starring Vicky Zhao and Nicholas Tse), is a very spritual story talking about an impossible love story between a cop (played by Vicky) and a drug dealer (Nic obviously). The movie will be released in Hong-Kong in march 2004. No need to say that this is one of the most awaited movies of the year in Hong-Kong.

Closer to us is Daniel Lee's Star Runner. This kind of prequel to Fighter's Blues tries to mix several elements (drama, love story, martial arts) with actors from Korea, Taiwan and Hong-Kong. An ambitious project which tries to be both commercial (with the star Vanness Wu from F4) and very artistic (Daniel Lee filming in a very unusual way for what seems to be another martial art stuff).

Our web-hoster has been very annoying last week, since it has trashed our database without notice (neither before nor after the trashing). So we moved out, and our new web-hoster has been attacked and thus was down during several hours. The site has been down longer than "planned" and we apologize for this.
Not everything is online, in particular the forums are going to be absent for a few days. The site is expected to be slow until the web-hoster finishes its upgrade of database servers.
Thanks in advance for your feedback in case of errors, and please forgive us for those annoyances.

IA2 and Milkyway rule on the box office

Running on karma
Even if the first 8 months of the year were quite poor in Hong Kong, thanks to the SARS crisis and a still recovering economy, the end of the year seems to be more promising, just like last year. September can be considered as a good month, with the success of the new romantic comedy of Johnnie To, Turn Left, Turn Right. The movie starring Takeshi Kaneshiro and Gigi Leung has reached 13 millions HK$, beating the western movies released at the same date. Just behind it was another HK movie, the newcomedy from the director of You shoot, I shoot: Men Suddenly In Black, reaching the 10 millions limit.

But the real heavy weight champions of the box office arrived at the end of the month. The real surprise was Running On Karma, a drama by Johnnie To (yes, the same one) starring Andy Lau and Cecilia Cheung, which earned more than 7 millions HK$ in 4 days and has reached 15 millions since. Reviews go from poor to great, and at least the movie seems surprising. Within a month, Milkyway Image managed to place 2 movies at the top of the box office.

Even better, the most awaited Infernal Affairs 2 by Andrew Lau and Alan Mak earned more than 6.5 millions HK$ in just 2 days. Since it stayed at the top of the box office (with 16 millions), but Running on Karma still has a tiny advantage as it was released a few days sooner (17 millions). It's difficult to predict which one will earn most. The advantage could go to Running on Karma, thanks to a better word-of-mouth, but that's more a bet than anything else. Both movies should go above 25 millions.

Very obviously, the western movies have nothing left, SWAT reaching 3 millions, and 2 Fast 2 Furious just half of that...
