Millenium Mambo était en Compétition au Festival de Cannes 2001. Comme In the mood for love en 2000, le film a été présenté au dernier moment. Il a été entièrement remonté (en 60 endroits, parait-il) pour sa sortie française. Mais même si le film est 20 minutes plus court, les différences sont minimes, à part la première scène qui revenait à l'origine deux fois. A noter qu’il a été financé en grande partie par la société de production française Paradis Films. Enfin la B.O. est fabuleuse (chez Milan), et contient nombre de morceaux qui ne sont pas, ou à peine, dans le film.
