DVD 36th Chamber of Shaolin, The
IVL

image

A very decent image, 16/9, quite sharp (but coming from an anamorphic master or not ?), very clean, with vivid colors. Very convincing.

sound

There are many better remixes, but also a lot of worse ones, especially made by IVL. This one is not very dynamic, but it's never annoying.

subtitles

Would be perfect if a little bit bigger...

special features

No interviews, which is a bit disappointing, but there is an interesting documentary about Shaolin. You will find also the usual photo gallery, biographies, production notes, trailers. About this 12 min documentary, it's in fact an interview with leading actor Gordon Liu, mixed with some comments about Shaolin. What Gordon says is often very interesting, when the comments about Shaolin sound more like a promotional ad... Still worth a look though, to see the enthusiasm of Gordon and learn a bit more about the movie.

menus

The first menu is animated and musical. The other ones are still, but pleasant to watch. The packaging is nice also.

quality/price ration

Except the tiny subs and the absence of Liu Chia-Liang's interview, this editon should please all the fans of this classic.
